I’ve always been insecure about my hair.
Once I started to straighten it and dye it, I loved how it felt to change up my hair. But over time, lots of heat and chemicals without proper haircare can cause damage. So my hair changed. It became frizzy, thin, and got lots of split ends. So I would cut it, but then I hated how short it was. I felt like I couldn’t get it to grow without looking straggly.
So I tried extensions.
The first pair of extensions I had was an individual piece with 9 clips, and it wasn’t real human hair. But I was young, and I LOVED the confidence that long hair brought me. So I wore those extensions out, and then invested in some nicer clip ins from Sally’s. I went through a few sets of those over the course of a few years, and then started ordering off of Bellami. Those were the nicest clips ins I bought. I’d go back and fourth between dark hair, adding blonde, adding color, and I loved that I could do all of this without damaging my real hair.
I rode the clip in train for a long time, all while I was learning how to take better care of my hair! I was getting regular haircuts, taking supplements, learning about haircare products, and perfecting a wash day routine.
Then last year I decided I wanted something more permanent. I would only wear the clip ins for special occasions or events, so when I didn’t wear them, I felt insecure. I wanted long, beautiful hair whether I was getting fully ready or just going to the gym and lounging on the couch. So I let my friend do tape ins. I wish I would’ve researched tape ins more, because I honestly hated them. They were so hard to wash and my scalp got SO itchy after I would workout. So I took them out myself, which lead to a lot of hair loss since I am not a professional. Yet again I tried extensions myself, but this time was microbead. I liked these way better than the tape ins, but when it was time for a move up I decided I wanted something more professional so I could have long hair while continuing my hair health journey. So I went and saw my girl Stephanie at Sage and Stone Hair Lounge. Talking to her during our original consultation solidified my decision and I went back a couple weeks later for the install. I was instantly in love and even to this day, 6 months and 3 move ups later, I’m still obsessed. I have two rows of invisible bead extensions — they blend in my hair perfectly and give me that confidence I wanted. I continue to take care of my natural hair, in fact every time I go back she tells me it’s growing and I’m getting new baby hairs. I’ve perfected a hair case and wash day routine. And I truly feel my best self.
So this is your sign to start taking care of your hair — whatever that means. Add extensions, go get a blow out, or simply find what products work for you!
