October was a mix of thrillers and self-development reads — the perfect balance between page-turning suspense and thought-provoking insights. Here’s a quick roundup of everything I read this month and what I thought of each one.
📘 Room for Rent – Nicole West Ihli (2/5)
This psychological thriller follows a woman looking for a fresh start, only to discover her new home — and the people connected to it — have dark secrets of their own. The premise was promising, but it didn’t quite hook me the way I’d hoped. The pacing felt slow at times, and I struggled to stay invested in the characters.
📗 The Intruder – Freida McFadden (5/5)
Freida McFadden does it again with another fast-paced, twist-filled thriller. The story centers around a seemingly normal couple whose lives take a dark turn when an unexpected visitor enters the picture. I couldn’t put this one down — it’s unpredictable, addictive, and exactly what I want in a psychological suspense read.
📙 The Let Them Theory – Mel Robbins (3/5)
This one dives into mindset and self-acceptance, built around the idea of letting others do what they do — and focusing instead on your own peace. It’s an easy, motivational read with solid takeaways, though some parts felt a bit repetitive if you’re already familiar with Mel’s style. Still, it’s a nice reminder to stop overthinking and just let them.
📕 The Custody Battle – Ellie Monago (4/5)
A gripping domestic thriller about the lengths people will go to protect the ones they love. Tension builds quickly, and the emotional stakes stay high throughout. I really enjoyed the pacing and the layered perspectives — it kept me guessing until the end.
Reading has always been one of my favorite ways to slow down and unwind, especially during the cozy fall months. Whether it’s curling up with a blanket and a thriller or finding inspiration from a good self-help book, it’s my little form of self-care that helps me reset. I can’t wait to see what stories November brings — if you’ve read any of these, or have recommendations for my next pick, let me know!
