What My Self-Care Actually Looks Like Right Now

I think social media can sometimes make self-care look overly aesthetic or unrealistic — like every day needs to include a perfectly clean house, a 10-step skincare routine, green juice, journaling, a workout, and somehow zero stress. And honestly? My version of self-care lately has looked a lot different than that.

Right now, self-care for me is focusing on consistency over perfection.

It’s making sure I eat enough protein during busy workdays instead of skipping meals because I’m “too busy.” It’s getting outside for a walk even when I don’t feel motivated. It’s cleaning my space because I know my mind feels clearer when my environment does too. It’s logging off earlier at night and giving myself time to actually relax instead of constantly trying to be productive.

Some days self-care looks like a full reset routine with skincare, a long shower, candles, and a cozy night in. Other days it’s answering emails from the couch in pajamas while reminding myself that resting is productive too.

I’ve also realized that self-care isn’t always adding more things to your routine. Sometimes it’s simplifying things. Protecting your energy. Saying no to things that drain you. Creating routines that actually work for your real life instead of routines that just look good online.

Lately, I’ve been focusing a lot more on habits that make me feel grounded:

  • moving my body regularly
  • planning my weeks ahead of time
  • keeping up with simple morning and nighttime routines
  • drinking more water
  • fueling my body better
  • spending less time scrolling
  • giving myself slower moments throughout the day

And truthfully, I think that version of self-care has helped me more than any perfectly curated routine ever could.

I’ve learned that taking care of yourself doesn’t need to be extreme to matter. Small habits add up. The little things you do consistently usually make the biggest difference over time.

So if your life feels busy, overwhelming, or messy right now, this is your reminder that self-care does not have to be perfect to still be valuable. Sometimes it’s just choosing to take care of yourself in small ways, even on the days when you don’t fully feel like it.
